About source elements
Source elements are used to create a flowchart for an app, subapp, or include. The flowchart is designed using elements connected to other elements, which creates the flow.
After you add a source element to the flowchart, an element's flowchart symbol can be moved and manipulated in various ways. The settings and behavior can also be edited in the element's dialog box, when applicable.
In the flowchart editor, you can complete the following actions for source elements.
-
Drag and drop source elements from the Toolbox to create a flowchart that reflects the logic for apps, subapps, and includes. For most elements, a dialog box opens so the applicable settings and behavior can be specified. Not all elements have dialog boxes.
-
After the element is dropped on the flowchart canvas, a right-click context menu is available that provides the following options for the element.
-
You can edit a source element's settings. You can also double-click a source element to edit it.
-
You can copy and paste source elements. You can select multiple source elements to copy and paste them as a set. The entire copied set is highlighted when pasted onto the canvas so they can all be moved in tandem.
-
You can delete a source element.

Arrows indicate where the app will move during execution. Elements can have multiple arrows, allowing you to create branches. Branches are paths in the app with actions that can be taken in specific circumstances. Depending on the source element used, different branches may be available. For examples, refer to the following list. Examples of some other arrow branches are shown below.
-
The Default branch allows you to specify the default path taken by the app.
-
The Error branch allows you to specify the path the app will take if an error occurs during execution of the element. The Success branch allows you to specify the path the app will take when execution of the element is successful.
-
Some elements have True/False branches, which give different paths depending upon a true or false outcome.
-
Some elements have Success/Error branches, which give different branches depending on successful or unsuccessful execution of the element.
-
True and False branches allow you to specify which path to take when the outcome of a condition is true, and which path to take when the outcome is false.
-
You can use the Escape and Cancel branches to allow users to exit from the element execution.
-
The No Data branch allows you to specify the path taken when the element execution presents no data.
-
-
Edit a source element's settings by double-clicking the associated symbol in the flowchart to open its dialog box (if applicable). Or right-click on the symbol and select Edit.
-
Move a source element to a different location in a flowchart by selecting and dragging the flowchart symbol to a new location. You can click and drag over multiple flowchart symbols to select them, and then move them as a group.
-
Undo an action when creating a flowchart. For example, after moving an element's symbol to a new location in the flowchart, to move it back to the position from which it was moved, select Undo on Edit drop-down menu on the task bar. To move it to the new location after all, select Redo on the task bar Edit drop-down menu.
-
Save a flowchart by clicking Save or Save and Publish on the task bar. Or select Save or Save and Publish from the File drop-down menu on the task bar.
