Platforms and platform views
About platforms and platform views
When developing an app, you must define which platforms the app will run on, as well as how forms should display on each platform.
Platforms
You must define the platforms that you want apps to run on. Platforms are supported for the following operating systems:
-
AIM (Automated Interface Manager)
-
Android
-
HTML5
-
iOS
-
Telnet (VT Emulation)
-
WinDesktop (Windows Desktop)
-
WinMobile (Windows Mobile)
Additionally, the Base platform enables you to set the default platform size, Application Menu text size, and Application Menu view, upon which the other platforms and views are based. Other platforms are children of the Base platform.
You might, for example, want an app to run on Android phones, in Mobile Client PC, and on Telnet. To accomplish this, define the Base, Android, Windows Desktop, and Telnet platforms. Then, as a best practice, disable all other platform options.
When Advanced Inventory releases a new supported platform, such as when a new device becomes available, you can import (upload) it into your Mobile Enterprise Platform instance.
Platform views
A platform view defines how forms display on a device, and one platform might require multiple views. For example, if using an Android platform, you must add a view for each type of Android phone that you want the app to run on.
Android and iOS platform views allow for setting alternate width and height settings for portrait and landscape view. When this is set, the view displays the alternate orientation settings in brackets after the platform view name on the Platforms View page.
Like platforms, you can download platform views from one Mobile Enterprise Platform instance and then upload it to another instance.
