About administration
Mobile Enterprise Platform includes the following tools that enable you to complete administration tasks such as back up and restore functions, licensing, setting up roles and user profiles, and configuring system settings. These tools are part of the Admin module, which is accessed in Platform Manager.
The Admin module is comprised of the following components.
-
Backup/Restore
-
Licensing
-
Users
-
Organizational Units
-
Roles
-
Configuration
-
Servers
Insights Admin
The Insights Admin feature allows you to manage users and groups, control access to content, and configure security settings for your analytics solution.
Backup/Restore
Backup/Restore provides a method for on-demand backup and on-demand restore. Backup is performed on-demand, which means the data is saved. The restore option allows the user the ability to restore a previously saved backup.
Licensing
The software license is controlled by a single license key, which contains a list of all the authorized components, their quantities, and expiration dates. The Licensing Agent retrieves the license key from a Web service hosted at Advanced Inventory. The Licensing Agent should be scheduled to run periodically so that any changes to authorized components can be applied to the system. Except for the schedule, there are no configurable options for this agent. The license ID includes the customer ID. The license ID appears in the upper left corner of the Licensing page.
Users
Users of the system require a user profile. A user profile consists of user roles, demographics, authentication controls, authorization parameters, and generic data information. Certain security settings can be defined for individual users in user profiles, while global security settings are established in System Settings.
Organizational Units
Organizational units provide an additional level of control for managing system resources. In addition to assigning access to resources by user profiles, these profiles can be organized into customized units. Assigning a user to a unit allows for limiting the information that the user can view in Transaction Workbench, System Monitor, and Develop. When a user is assigned to an Organizational Unit, the user can only view or edit system information pertaining to other users also assigned to that unit.
The physical address of each Organizational Unit can also be entered here.
Roles
Roles enable assigning preset user privileges, rather than setting security for each individual user. A role can be assigned when there are users who have the same responsibilities or are given different responsibilities. When assigning roles, permissions are set for the users to access certain system components. Features, such as system privileges and viewing system status information, are defined in roles. Roles can be assigned from the Roles component of the Admin category and from the Roles tab in a user profile.
Configuration
Configuration is a menu in the Admin category that provides access to configuration settings of other components of the system. The following components are included in the Configuration menu:
-
System Settings
-
Event Handling
-
Error Handling
-
Localization
-
Device Data Replication
-
Agent Settings
-
Connector Settings
-
Platform Views
-

-

-

-
Database Connection Strings
-
Printers
-
Function Call Dependencies
-
Device Groups
-

-

Servers
The system can be comprised of either one or multiple servers. All Mobile Enterprise Platform components are propagated to each server. The agents for a server can have different settings. One server is considered the license owner, although the license owner can be changed later. If the license owner goes down, there are two options:
-
Get the server that is the license owner back into operation within five days. If not, the license expires.
-
Change the license owner to a different server on the Servers page in Admin. This requires contacting Advanced Inventory to re-license.
At installation, the server is joined to another server that has settings to copy.
About Audit Information
Admin components, along with other Mobile Enterprise Platform components, provide audit information on pages when information is updated. When saving on the Edit page of a component, audit information (user, date, and time) appears in the lower right corner of the page. Components for which editing is done on the main page instead of an Edit page, such as Environments and Promotion Levels, display columns showing "Modified By" and "Date Modified."
