About developing with alternative SDKs
Mobile Enterprise Platform supports alternative tools such as xCode, Android Studio, Xamarin and others. This enables developers to create a client application with their choice of coding platform or with a SDK for wearables or other specialized devices, while using Mobile Enterprise Platform's application services to provide back-end logic and functionality, such as identity access, data access, and system of record integration.
To connect apps built with alternative SDKs with Mobile Enterprise Platform's app services, Mobile Enterprise Platform provides standards-based Web APIs. The diagram below illustrates this architecture. Here, developers can use their preferred tool chain to develop the front-end user experience of their app. Then, they use the logic building tools found in Application Studio to create microservices that provide the back-end logic and service definitions for the app. Once created, the developer can then make calls through Advanced Inventory Web APIs to allow their app to access any required server-side application services. This flexible architecture means that you can pair your developers' existing skill sets with Mobile Enterprise Platform to rapidly create and deploy the apps your business needs.
Types of API Calls
The Web Services API Agent provides the following message call types.
-
Public Calls retrieve and return platform server time and version.
-
Device Calls register mobile devices with the platform server.
-
Access Calls process logon and logoff requests and provide a valid session token for authenticated calls.
-
Session Calls handle transaction messages, such as calling subapps or print requests.
