About printer setup
Enterprise Printing Platform™ requires each label template to be associated with a specific printer. You must also specify how each printer is connected to EPP.
The license you purchase determines the number of printer destinations you can use. If you run in Demo Mode, you can only add 10 printers.
Add a printer to a site
When you add a printer, you associate it with a site.
To add a printer, complete the following steps in EPP.
Important:For best results, it is recommended that you install the bridge application in the same geographical area where your printers are located.

From the application header, select Admin > Printer Admin > Setup.

On the Printer Setup page, select Add.

Under Name, enter a name for the printer.

Under Site, select the printer site.
-
Under Make and Model, select the make and model of the printer from the list of printers installed on the Enterprise Printing Platform system.

Under Interpreter, select the communication language associated with the printer.

Optional. If you are using label media, complete the following substeps.

Under Label Media, select the label media item currently being used by the printer.

If you are adding a partial roll to the printer, under Amount Used, enter the amount that has been used.

Optional. If you are using ribbon media, complete the following substeps.

Under Ribbon Media, select the ribbon media item currently being used by the printer.

If you are adding a partial roll to the printer, under Amount Used, enter the amount that has been used.

Under Connection Type, select the connection type, and then complete one of the following actions.

If the Connection Type selected is Socket, under IP Address, enter the IP Address for the printer.

If the Connection Type selected is File, under File Name, enter the File Name for the printer.

If the Connection Type is local, in the System Printer list, select the printer.

Under Port, enter the port number. This option is not applicable to local/network printers.

Optional. Under Maintenance Port, enter the maintenance port number.

Under Location, select the physical location of the printer.

Under Redirect, select the redirect destination for the printer.

Optional. On the Info tab, under Additional Info, enter a description for the printer.

Optional. Edit optional printer settings.

Optional. To send a command to the printer, on the Command tab, complete the following substeps.

Enter a command.

Select Execute Command.

Optional. To enter searchable data, on the User Defined Fields tab, enter data for the field.

Optional. To test the connection to the printer URL, select Test Connection.

Select Save.
Add a local/network printer
Local/network printers that are not managed in Enterprise Printing Platform can also be added to Printer Setup. Local/network printers do count towards the printer seat licenses that may have been purchased. Local/network printers are not monitored in Printer and Job Monitor. Print Jobs, however, are logged and can be viewed and reprinted.
To add a local/network printer, complete the following steps in EPP.

From the application header, select Admin > Printer Admin > Setup.

On the Printer Setup page, select Add.

In the Connection Type list, select Local.

In the System Printer list, select the printer.Step InformationNote:This will also be the printer Name.

In the Location list, select the location of the printer.

Select Save.
Edit a printer
Enterprise Printing Platform requires each label template to be associated with a specific printer. How each printer is connected to the application must be explicitly defined. Most fields can be edited for a printer that has already been defined.
To edit a printer, complete the following steps in EPP.

From the application header, select Admin > Printer Admin > Setup.

On the Printer Setup page, select the printer, and then select Edit.

Optional. Edit the desired fields. For field descriptions, refer to Printer settings.

Optional. To change a printer license, complete the following substeps.

Select Change License.

Under License Expiration, select the new license.

Select OK.

Optional. To view a printer's home page in a browser, select Printer Web Page.

Optional. To send a test page to a printer, select Print Test Page.

Optional. To reset a printer back to its default settings, select Reset.

Select Save.
Copy a printer
The Printer Setup screen is used to set up printers. To simplify additions, a printer can be copied, then renamed as a new printer.
To copy a printer, complete the following steps in EPP.

From the application header, select Admin > Printer Admin > Setup.

Select the name of the printer in the list and select Copy.

Enter a new name for the printer and edit any of the fields as desired. For field descriptions, refer to Printer settings.

Select Save.
Delete a printer
Printers can be deleted in printer setup.
To delete a printer, complete the following steps in EPP.

From the application header, select Admin > Printer Admin > Printer Setup.

In the list of printer destinations, select the printer you wish to delete.

Select Delete.
Printer settings
You can edit the following printer fields in the Printer Details window.
Amount Used
The amount of a roll used, if a partial roll is being added to the printer.
Default: 0
File Name
The file name for the printer.
Interpreter
The communication language for a printer type.
Examples of communication languages: IPL, DPL, ZPL, MBPL, SBPL, PGL, and PCL.
Examples of printer types: Intermec, Datamax, Zebra, Sato, and Printronix.
IP Address
The IP address for the printer.
Label Media
The Label media item currently being used by the printer.
Location
The physical location of the printer.
Maintenance Port
The maintenance port number for the printer.
Make and Model
The make and model of a printer installed on the Enterprise Printing Platform system.
Monitored
Select or clear the Monitored check box to enable or disable socket printer monitoring. Printer monitoring is enabled by default.
Name
The name given to the printer during setup.
Port
The port number for the printer.
Redirect
The redirect destination for print jobs. The user may select another printer to which to re-route print jobs.
Ribbon Media
The Ribbon media item currently being used by the printer.
Site
The place that contains the printer location. The site becomes associated with the location during setup.

The user defined description for the printer.
Settings tab
Activate Cutter
The cutter activation check box is available based on whether the selected printer make and model has cutter capability. If available, the cutter can be selected to allow for continuous labels cut at a custom length.
Darkness
The darkness setting slider is based on the selected printer make and model. The setting selected with the slider displays in the box. The user may set the darkness of what is printed on the label.
Media Type
The type of label stock that will be loaded in the printer. This field does not display for all printers. The selection in this field will place the printer in the proper mode by sending the required command.
Postamble
The specific commands to be sent to a printer after each print job completes.
Preamble
The specific commands to be sent to a printer prior to each job.
Speed
The printer speed field is enabled, or disabled, depending on the selected printer make and model. The user may speed up or slow down the printing of a label.

Edit optional printer settings
You can edit optional printer settings in the Printer Setup window.
To edit optional printer settings, complete the following steps in EPP.

From the application header, select Admin > Printer Admin > Setup.

On the Printer Setup page, select the printer, and then select Edit.Step InformationNote:You can also edity these settings when adding a new printer.

On the Settings tab, edit any of the following items.

Under Preamble, enter specific commands to be sent to the printer prior to each job.

Under Postamble, enter specific commands to be sent to this printer after each print job.

If the printer make and model has cutter capability, to allow for continuous labels cut at a custom length, select Activate Cutter.

Under Darkness, use the slider to select the darkness of what will be printed on the label.

Under Speed, select the printer speed.

Under Media type, select the type of label stock that will be loaded in the printer.
