Microsoft Dynamics Advanced Warehouse Integration
About integrating EPP with Microsoft Dynamics
This guide provides the general steps needed to integrate DSI Enterprise Printing Platform (EPP) with Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 and later, or Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations.
You can integrate the Microsoft Dynamics Warehouse Management module in your Dynamics ERP with Enterprise Printing Platform. This allows you to pass data from Microsoft Dynamics to EPP so that you can print labels directly from Advanced Warehouse (WHS) mobile devices.
Dynamics usually communicates with printers by passing ZPL code to the printer, so that you have to code your own label layout. EPP provides a label editor and other features to make printing labels directly from Dynamics easier and more efficient. EPP provides a fully enterprise-capable label printing solution, allowing you to maintain and update your label design without having to make changes in Dynamics.
Integrate EPP with Microsoft Dynamics
You can integrate the Microsoft Dynamics module in your Dynamics ERP with EPP and pass data to EPP so you can print labels directly from Microsoft Dynamics Advanced Warehouse (WHS) mobile devices.
To integrate your EPP instance and an instance of Microsoft Dynamics, complete the following procedures.
-
To ensure communication between Microsoft Dynamics and EPP, map a printer to the virtual printer port in EPP.
Configure Microsoft Dynamics
You can configure Microsoft Dynamics to communicate with printers to print labels created in EPP.
To configure Microsoft Dynamics for integration with EPP, complete the following steps in Microsoft Dynamics.
-
Go to Warehouse Management > Setup > Document routing > Document routing layouts.
-
Select New.
-
For Layout ID, enter a name for the label layout.
-
Enter a Description for the label layout.
-
Copy into the Label layout window the sample XML from EPP. To select more variables, you can right-click in this pane.
-
Update the _PRINTERNAME variable to match the name of the PrinterId in EPP that will be used to print this label.Step InformationNote:All data in this file is sent to EPP, but EPP simply skips over what is not included in the label template.
-
In Dynamics 365, select Save. The layout is saved automatically in AX.
-
Create one layout for each EPP printer.
-
Map the layouts to your mobile warehouse functions and users.
Define a print request
You can send a label print request from Microsoft Dynamics to EPP
To define a print request, complete the following steps in Microsoft Dynamics.
-
Go to Document Routing > Document routing.
-
Under Document routing printers, select New.
-
For Printer name, enter the name of the printer that you mapped to EPP.
-
Under Layout ID, select the document routing layout you created in the previous section.
-
To test the connection, send a print request to EPP.Expected ResultResult: A label print request can now be sent from within Dynamics during the course of your business workflow.
