Recommended settings on mobile devices
For each mobile device that you want to run Direct apps, we recommend implementing specific configuration changes to the device's virtual keyboard, voice input, and internal scanner options.
Web browser settings
In the web browser used for Direct on your device, disable the following setting. The name location of this setting varies by device and browser. For example, in Google Chrome on an Android device, this setting is located at Chrome Settings > Settings > Autofill and Payments.
-
Text auto-fill or Text auto-complete
General keyboard settings
The keyboard changes are intended to maximize the available screen space while retaining all necessary keyboard functionality. Disabling specific settings allows you to hide the top row of the virtual keyboard. This hides the row which ordinarily contains recommended text, the microphone option, and other non-essential features.
The names and locations of specific settings vary per device. For example, on a Honeywell 5DA50 Android device, these settings are located at Settings > Languages & Input > Virtual Keyboard > Android Keyboard (ASOP), in the Preferences and Text Correction sections.
In your device's main settings menu, disable the following settings.
-
Voice input key
-
Text auto-correction
-
Show correction suggestions
-
Personalized suggestions
-
Suggest contact names
-
Next-word suggestions
-
Dictation or OK Google
To apply the changes to these settings, reboot the device. For some scanner devices, you can reboot by holding down the power button and selecting Reboot.
